A Green That’s Bad for You

Quick Pool Cleaning Service Guide to Green Pools

Your pool used to be blue and crystal clear. However, over time, the clear blue of your swimming pool can turn into green. It can be extremely unsightly and quite unsafe, but it can be fixed by your local pool cleaning service provider. Lucky for you, we know exactly what makes your pool turn green and how to clean them!

The Cause of a Green Pool

If your pool looks green, it’s typically because of algae that have grown and spread. When the chlorine level in your pool drops below a certain point, algae can grow. It can also be because of malfunctioning sanitation and filtration or too much sunlight and heat.

When either of those occurs, your pool starts to get that green color and turns a bit cloudy, and this would begin staining your pool walls and floors. You’ll need to use special chemicals to kill the algae and prevent them in the future or shock your pool to kill algae, cleaning it thoroughly to get that crystalline blue pool again.

The Different Color Levels

Your pool is probably one of these three colors, depending on how bad the problem has become.

1) Teal: This is basically the beginning point of algae growth and the least problematic.

2) Green: Your pool may look swampy on this level of dirtiness. This is a bit more serious than the teal level, but don’t worry. This pool can still be cleaned with chlorine or algaecide, and with proper cleaning and handling, of course.

3) Black: When your pool turns dark green or even black, it will need a lot of work done. Aside from just draining the pool water than cleaning it, a heavier dose of chlorine or algaecide would be needed.

Preventing a Green Pool

Make sure that your pool water is clean and balanced by getting a water sample test to determine exactly the type of pool chemicals that are needed. Check with a professional pool cleaner which chemicals would be best for your pool. You can always just hire one and let them worry about everything while you sit back inside the house and relax.
